Overview

Floor plan management lets you upload property floor plans (including PDFs), label rooms, and visually track where equipment and materials are located. BlueClerk automatically processes uploaded floor plans using Sharp image processing to create crisp, black-and-white plans optimized for viewing on any device. You can rotate and flip floor plan images to orient them correctly, and the viewer includes smooth zoom, pan, and pinch controls for easy navigation.

Uploading a Floor Plan

Adding a Floor Plan Image

  1. Open a property detail page
  2. Scroll to the "Floor Plan" section
  3. Click "Upload Floor Plan"
  4. Select an image (JPEG, PNG, or WebP)
  5. BlueClerk processes the image automatically:
    • Converts to grayscale
    • Normalizes contrast
    • Sharpens details
    • Creates crisp black/white output with thickened walls
    • Upscales to 3000px width for clarity
    • Exports as WebP for fast loading

Processing Details

The automatic processing pipeline:

  • Prescales tiny images 4x before processing if needed
  • Enhances contrast to make walls and details stand out
  • Thickens walls slightly so they stay visible on mobile devices
  • No external APIs - all processing happens instantly with Sharp

Viewing Floor Plans

Interactive Viewer

The floor plan viewer includes:

  • Smooth zoom controls - Zoom in/out with buttons or scroll wheel
  • Pinch zoom - Use two fingers to zoom on touch devices
  • Pan - Click and drag to move around the floor plan
  • Double-click zoom - Double-click anywhere to zoom in
  • Fit button - Reset zoom and center the image
  • 800px viewport height - Large viewing area for detail work
  • Scroll wheel: Zoom in and out smoothly
  • Click and drag: Pan around large floor plans
  • Double-click: Quick zoom to a specific area
  • Pinch on mobile: Use two fingers to zoom on phones/tablets

Transforming Floor Plans

Rotating the Image

If your floor plan is sideways or upside down:

  1. Click "Rotate" in the viewer controls
  2. The image rotates 90° clockwise
  3. Click again to continue rotating
  4. Rotation is saved automatically to the property

When to Rotate

Rotate when:

  • The floor plan was uploaded sideways
  • Text on the plan is hard to read
  • You want to match a specific orientation

Labeling Rooms

Manual Room Creation

  1. Click "Add Room" in the floor plan section
  2. Enter room name (e.g., "Master Bedroom")
  3. Select room type from dropdown
  4. Save the room

Room Types

Choose from:

  • Bedroom
  • Bathroom
  • Kitchen
  • Living Room
  • Dining Room
  • Office
  • Garage
  • Laundry
  • Utility
  • Other

Tracking Equipment Locations

Assigning Equipment to Rooms

  1. Add or edit equipment on the property
  2. Select "Floor Plan Room" for location type
  3. Choose the room from the dropdown
  4. Save - Equipment now appears under that room

Viewing Equipment by Room

  • Each room card shows equipment assigned to it
  • Click equipment to view full details
  • Filter equipment list by room for quick reference

Tips

  • Upload high-quality images - Clearer source images produce better results
  • Processing is automatic - No need to edit images before uploading
  • Works on mobile - Thickened walls ensure visibility on small screens
  • Instant processing - No waiting for external APIs
  • Rotate as needed - Easy to fix orientation after upload

Questions

Q: What image formats are supported? A: JPEG, PNG, and WebP images up to 10MB.

Q: Why does my floor plan look different after upload? A: BlueClerk automatically converts floor plans to crisp black-and-white images with enhanced walls for better visibility on all devices.

Q: Can I undo a rotation? A: Yes, just click Rotate again to continue rotating until you reach the orientation you want.

Q: How do I zoom in on mobile? A: Use two fingers to pinch-zoom on the floor plan, or use the zoom in/out buttons.

Q: Does processing work offline? A: Processing happens on BlueClerk's servers using Sharp, so you need an internet connection to upload, but no external API calls are made.
