Floor Plan Management

Upload floor plans, label rooms, and track equipment locations visually

Overview

Floor plan management lets you upload property floor plans, label rooms, and visually track where equipment and materials are located. This creates an interactive map of the property that helps you and your team quickly locate equipment for service calls and maintenance.

Uploading a Floor Plan

Adding a Floor Plan Image

  1. Open a property detail page
  2. Scroll to the "Floor Plan" section
  3. Click "Upload Floor Plan"
  4. Select an image (JPEG, PNG, or WebP under 10MB)
  5. The floor plan uploads and displays in the viewer

Important: Uploading a new floor plan will replace any existing floor plan and room labels for that property.

Labeling Rooms

Adding Room Labels

Once your floor plan is uploaded:

  1. Click directly on the floor plan where you want to add a room label
  2. A room marker appears at that location
  3. Type the room name (e.g., "Master Bedroom", "Kitchen")
  4. The label is placed on the floor plan

Moving Room Labels

  • Click and drag any room label to reposition it
  • Room labels automatically snap to the new location
  • Equipment counts update to show how many items are in each room

Searching for Rooms

  • Click the search icon in the viewer toolbar
  • Type a room name to filter visible labels
  • Labels matching your search are highlighted

Adding Equipment to Rooms

From the Floor Plan

  1. Click a room label on the floor plan
  2. The room is selected and highlighted
  3. Click "Add Equipment" from the toolbar or context menu
  4. Fill in equipment details with the room pre-selected
  5. Equipment is added and the count updates on the room label

Equipment Display

  • Room labels show counts like "Kitchen (3)" indicating 3 items in that room
  • Click a room label to filter the equipment list to only that room's items
  • Equipment icons differentiate between equipment (wrench) and materials (paintbrush)

Floor Plan Viewer Controls

Zoom and Pan

  • Zoom in/out: Use the +/- buttons or scroll wheel
  • Pan: Click and drag on the background (not on labels)
  • Fit to view: Click the maximize icon to auto-fit the floor plan
  • Rotate: Click the rotate icon to turn the floor plan 90 degrees

Saving Changes

  • Unsaved changes are marked with a "dirty" indicator
  • Click "Save Layout" to save room positions and rotation
  • Confirmation prompt appears if you try to upload a new floor plan with unsaved changes

Tips

  • Label rooms before adding equipment - This makes it easier to organize items by location
  • Use descriptive room names - "Master Bath" is clearer than "Bathroom 1"
  • Update floor plans after remodels - Keep your floor plan current when rooms change
  • Zoom in for precision - Get closer when placing labels in tight spaces
  • Search for quick navigation - Use search to find specific rooms on large floor plans

Questions

Q: What image formats are supported? A: JPEG, PNG, and WebP images under 10MB. Most photos and scanned floor plans work fine.

Q: Can I have multiple floor plans per property? A: No, each property has one floor plan. If you have multi-story homes, consider uploading a combined image or labeling by floor (e.g., "2F Master Bedroom").

Q: What happens to equipment when I upload a new floor plan? A: Equipment records remain intact, but room assignments are cleared since room locations are deleted. You'll need to re-label rooms and reassign equipment.

Q: Can homeowners see my floor plan? A: Yes, if they have access to the property. Floor plans are visible to property owners and any contractors with access.

Q: Do changes save automatically? A: No, you must click "Save Layout" to save room positions and rotation changes. You'll see a warning if you try to leave with unsaved changes.
