Brand Autocomplete for Equipment

Get smart brand suggestions when adding equipment to properties

Overview

When adding equipment to a property, BlueClerk's brand autocomplete helps you enter consistent, accurate brand names. As you type, you'll see popular brands for that equipment category, and the system automatically corrects common misspellings - so "Koehler" becomes "Kohler" without you lifting a finger.

How It Works

Smart Suggestions

  1. Start typing a brand name in the brand field
  2. See suggestions appear filtered by equipment category
  3. Suggestions are sorted by popularity - most-used brands appear first
  4. Click a suggestion to auto-fill the field

Automatic Correction

If you type a brand name that's close to an existing one:

  • BlueClerk fuzzy-matches your input (within 2 character edits)
  • Corrects to the canonical name automatically on save
  • Example: Type "Koehler" → saves as "Kohler"

Category-Specific Brands

Brand suggestions are filtered by equipment category:

  • HVAC equipment shows HVAC brands (Trane, Carrier, Lennox)
  • Water heaters show water heater brands (Rheem, Bradford White, AO Smith)
  • Appliances show appliance brands (GE, Whirlpool, Samsung)

Tips

  • Let the system learn: The more you use certain brands, the higher they appear in suggestions
  • Trust the autocorrect: If you're close to a known brand name, BlueClerk will fix it
  • No seed data needed: The brand list grows organically from real usage across all contractors

Questions

Q: What if I need to add a brand that's not in the list? A: Just type it in - BlueClerk will add it to the database and it'll appear in future suggestions.

Q: Can I override the fuzzy match if it's wrong? A: The system only corrects within 2 character edits. If your brand is further away, it'll save exactly as you typed it.

Q: Do brand suggestions show brands from other contractors? A: Yes - the brand database is shared across all BlueClerk users, so you benefit from the collective knowledge of the platform.
