Requesting Work

Create job requests to get work done at your property

Overview

When something needs fixing or you want work done at your home, create a job request. You can send it directly to a contractor you know, or post it to the marketplace to find contractors in your area.

Creating a Job Request

Starting a Request

  1. Log in to your homeowner account
  2. Go to your property or Job Requests
  3. Click "Request Work" or "New Request"

Describing the Work

Fill in the details:

  • Service type: Select what kind of work (Plumbing, Electrical, etc.)
  • Description: Explain what needs to be done
  • Photos: Upload pictures of the issue
  • Urgency: Note if it's an emergency
  • Preferred timing: When would be good

Adding Photos

Photos help contractors understand the issue:

  1. Click "Add Photos"
  2. Take new photos or select from your device
  3. Add multiple images if helpful
  4. Photos are shared with interested contractors

Writing a Good Description

Good example:

"Kitchen faucet drips constantly even when fully closed. It's a Moen single-handle faucet, about 5 years old. The drip is from the spout, not the base. Would like it repaired or replaced."

What to include:

  • What's happening
  • Where exactly (which room, which fixture)
  • How long it's been an issue
  • Any relevant details (brand, age, etc.)
  • What you want done

Sending to a Specific Contractor

If you know who you want to do the work:

  1. Create the request as described above
  2. Choose "Send to Contractor"
  3. Search for the contractor by name
  4. Select them from results
  5. Submit the request

The contractor receives your request and can:

  • Accept (start planning the work)
  • Decline (with a reason)
  • Message you with questions

Posting to the Marketplace

If you want to find contractors:

  1. Create the request as described above
  2. Choose "Find Contractors" or "Post to Marketplace"
  3. Set an expiration date (how long to accept interest)
  4. Submit to post

Your request becomes visible to contractors in your area.

What Happens Next

  1. Contractors see your request (city/state only, not exact address)
  2. Interested contractors express interest with a message
  3. You receive notifications when contractors respond
  4. Review interested contractors - see their profiles
  5. Chat with them to discuss details
  6. Hire the one you choose

Request Status

Your request goes through stages:

  • Pending: Sent to contractor, waiting for response
  • Accepted: Contractor accepted, work will be scheduled
  • Interest Received: (Marketplace) Contractors have expressed interest
  • In Progress: Work is being done
  • Completed: Work finished

Managing Active Requests

Viewing Your Requests

Go to Job Requests to see:

  • All your active requests
  • Status of each
  • Interested contractors (for marketplace posts)
  • Messages and updates

Editing a Request

You can update requests that haven't been accepted:

  • Add more photos
  • Update description
  • Change timing preferences

Canceling a Request

If you no longer need the work:

  1. Open the request
  2. Click "Cancel Request"
  3. Optionally note the reason
  4. Confirm cancellation

Contractors are notified of cancellation.

Tips

  • Be specific - vague requests get vague responses
  • Add photos - they're worth a thousand words
  • Respond promptly to contractor messages
  • Check contractor profiles before hiring
  • Don't share personal info in public descriptions

Common Questions

Q: How quickly will contractors respond? A: It varies. Many respond within hours for marketplace posts. Direct requests depend on that contractor's responsiveness.

Q: What if no contractors express interest? A: Try broadening the service type, improving your description, or extending the expiration date.

Q: Can I send the same request to multiple contractors? A: For direct requests, send to one at a time. For marketplace, multiple contractors see it automatically.

Q: Is my address shared with all contractors? A: No. Marketplace posts show only city/state/ZIP. Your exact address is shared only after you hire a contractor.
